20 Something Years Later…

November 4, 2017 By Larry Hochman 3 Comments

You have comeback power…even 20 Something Years Later.

No matter how bad things are, there’s always a path back to feeling better…and becoming successful.

I got a great lesson in that when I came up a person from my past…who I remembered as sad, scared, and alone.

No, not everyone finds their way out of their own personal abyss.

But everyone can.

Don’t give up.

Home business challenges?

Don’t give up.

Relationship problems?

Don’t give up.

Health scare?

Don’t give up.

Having a hard time making sense of your life, feeling overwhelmed, underappreciated, not sure howto make it work?

Doesn’t matter if it’s 20 something years later.

Don’t give up.

don't give up

You Can Do Anything You Want

October 14, 2017 By Larry Hochman 4 Comments

IMG_3813

You can do anything you want.

I know it’s something we say to each other all the time.

And sometimes we mean when we say it.

But usually we don’t.

We try and encourage each other to do things that are way out of our comfort zones.

And we see the role models of success around us.

So we say the words, and go to the seminars.

And do the affirmations and vision boards.

But we don’t believe it.

So I’m telling you with total honesty, as someone who has done some really hard things in the recent past…

It is really freakin’ hard.

But it is possible.

And the effort is worth it.

***   ***

A few days ago I asked people what they were proud of.

Here are a few of the answers…

My sons who all turned out to be great guys,
and daughter who finished school with all A’s
even though she has been battling severe panic
attacks, Hashimoto Thiroiditis and depression.

My husband and kids

I am proud of myself… for having the courage
to start my own business and not giving up after
my failures.

Helping people overcome some form of pain by
writing a book that helps others in a similar situation.

My college degrees! I still to this day am shocked I did it!

A website I’m working on right now. Incomplete but
I’m liking my thought process.

Just launched the first tangible product of my business.

My kids and grandkids. I’m also proud of myself…
went back to college while working a 7 day midnight shift.

Proud that I created a business over 40 years ago that
now is the main source of income for me and most of
my son’s and granddaughters.

I am proud that I can make wooden doll house furniture
look better then factory quality.

Hitting rock bottom and climbing back out.

See yourself in any of those?

Ordinary people who decided to put down their fear
and do something that made them feel alive.

Or help other people.

Whatever it is you’re looking to do…

It’s possible.

You can be proud of the stuff in your life.

And you can make it something you do all
the time.

You are good enough to make miracles happen.

You don’t have to know it right now.

I’ll know it for both of us.

And you can do anything you want.

And if you want some help getting there, I know how to help you.

Thank God It’s Friday? Really???

September 22, 2017 By Larry Hochman 1 Comment

Get rid of the whole “Thank God It’s Friday” thing. It doesn’t work in the life of a successful person.

What do you do when you go to the gym on a Thursday and the dude a few lockers down from you grunts something about, “one more wake?”

Well, if you’re me, you smile and nod and let the “conversation” die a natural death. I don’t relate to what the guy says.

It’s not because I don’t have to think about what day of the week it is. I do. My life is structured in a way so that I have to do different things on Thursdays than I do on Saturdays or Sundays.

And I don’t always enjoy every aspect on what I do on Monday through Friday. There are times when I really look forward to two days when I get a break from my usual commitments.

But to go up to someone you don’t know by name and suggest your life sucks for five days out of the week?

Really?

The guy either really dislikes his life and wants everyone to know about it, or he’s just caught in the same programming many others are caught in, where he thinks he’s supposed to hate his worklife. He looks forward to two days when he can sleep in, watch football and drink.

Maybe both.

Reject the programming.

If you hate what you’re doing, do something else.

Or find a way to do it better, or at least differently.

Find some meaning in it. Find the parts where what you do provides value to others, even if you never get to see it.

And if you’re doing something to earn money and take care of your responsibilities, but you’re building something else you’d rather be doing full time…

Be grateful.

Be grateful for the chance to do both. Be grateful for your capacity for hard work.

Be grateful for the fact that you’re learning new stuff.

Be grateful for the contrast between what you want and what you’re doing. Let the contrast inspire and motivate you.

Thank God It’s Friday is fine. Just find a way to make it because you appreciate all the parts of your life, not just the end of the week.

Who Was Your Favorite Teacher?

September 13, 2017 By Larry Hochman 4 Comments

favorite teacher

I asked people on Facebook who their favorite teacher was.

It was a fun question, because it brought back great memories for a lot of people. And they weren’t shy about telling everyone.

Take a look at some of the answers I got.

*** ***

My 5th grade teacher Ms. Eckman. She was tough and had high expectations. She had total control of the classroom and even though she wasn’t the nicest teacher when in her class, many of her former students came to appreciate how much she invested in us in our later years and visited her. It was then we realized just how much she loved us and how kind she was.

Mrs. Misehiemer She took time out with me when I didn’t understand and realized that I needed special help.

I loved Mr. Marola. I struggled so much with math and he took the time to help me.

Mrs Venturi, my sixth grade science teacher. She had my back from day one. She was my advocate, biggest supporter and friend. She was even at my wedding. The world lost a beautiful person when she passed away.

So so many, but Mrs. Ozga shaped my future for sure.

Mr. Bund was my favorite teacher. After some rough years in elementary school when I felt like an outcast, he made me feel smart, relevant and welcome. Thank you, sir!

Mrs. Luximon my teacher for Hinduism. She was very kind and I loved her technique of inclusion of each classmate. 20 years later and I still carry wonderful memories of my two years of schooling with her. There was also Mrs. Roy for French Literature. She was the only one who honoured and helped refine my analytical skills thereby developing my passion for languages and at a later stage the career I would embrace in Psychology … In that sense I must also make a special mention of my own father who was a Mathematics teacher that made the subject simply magical under his explanations.

I had a couple that believed in me, I’ve also had my fair share of ones that told me I would never amount to anything. It’s funny, as an adult, how certain things stick in your head, I distinctly remember the ones that meant a lot and those that tried to push me down.

Mrs. Hyde & Mr. Higgins. Both had really high expectations of me. Made me push myself to be a better student and woman!

Mrs. Owens, second grade teacher. She allowed me to take on projects that were appropriate for my level of capability. She was so encouraging and affirming. Would always hug me. I needed that emotional interaction. It meant the world to me. I wasn’t feeling so loved at that time in my life.

Mr Lysek. He was hard on us and wanted us to learn to want more from ourselves.

Mrs Yuhas my English teacher in 8th she told me “Your first thought is always your best” I have found that to be true.

So who was your favorite teacher?

Coming soon: how knowing about your favorite teacher can help you get better at whatever is important to you now.

This Is Why People Hate Coaches

September 11, 2017 By Larry Hochman 7 Comments

FullSizeRender

There are a few reasons why people hate coaches.

They charge too much. Or they don’t deliver what they say they will.

I think there is one main reason was why people hate coaches. And that’s too bad, because coaching can really be effective.

I was messaging with a friend who mentioned he had an “online coach” who said a possible reason for his lack of confidence was…

Elevated estrogen levels.

I asked if this coach was a doctor or had seen blood work that might show something that suggested a hormone imbalance. The answer: “No, but he’s really powerful and smart, like you.”

Sigh…

If you’re going to present yourself as a professional, you have to behave like one. It’s one thing to make mistakes as part of your regular practice. Everyone does that. It’s another to talk out of your ass about stuff you aren’t qualified to talk about.

This is why people hate “coaches.”

No standards.
No professionalism.
No accountability.

If you’re a coach, don’t pretend to know what you don’t know.

And don’t say things to people that move them away from trusting their own ability to fix their lives.

Your charge is to empower other people. Not to make people dependent on your help. And not to make yourself feel more important by having a cult following.

And by the way, I completely believe in counseling and coaching as a profession. I’ve been in both for all of the 21st century. When done right, coaching can help someone unravel the tough parts of their life and succeed in ways they never have before.

If you’re looking for a coach, find someone who knows how to listen.

Find someone who asks questions and doesn’t look for a “one size fits all” answer.

Find someone who doesn’t tell you they’ll magically fix all your problems.

Find someone who trusts in your ability to be successful, prosperous and independent.

What People are Saying

In just 60 minutes of coaching, Larry helped me look at my business obstacles in different ways, and suggested specific steps I could take to resolve these issues. Since our session and by applying Larry’s methods, I’ve experienced a 30% bump in my business income (my best month ever). I directly attribute this to working with Larry and feeling more confident in receiving money for my expertise.

Dr. Bob Clarke

My monthly business income has almost doubled in the past few months. A lot of that is because of my coaching with Larry.

Chad F. Ohio

I met Larry when he came to the Capital District to speak at a business seminar. Watching Larry Speak was mesmerizing and I was able to take so much away from his speech.I also hired Larry for one of his series of coaching and learned so much in the hours we spoke. He helped me set a great foundation for a game plan I set in motion. Larry is great to speak with, can put you in the right direction with grace and ease. I would hire him again without a split second of hesitation.”

Christine Harvey Berry New York

I’ve coached with Larry before and always came away with something good that I could use. Last winter I hit a bad patch of doldrums — just couldn’t get out of my own way. I definitely needed a jump start and figured that Larry was the man to do it. I told Larry I needed someone to kick my a** – in a good way – and he has done a great job. As always. Thanks to Larry, I’m back on track physically, mentally, and emotionally, and I’m getting stuff done.

B.K. Washington

Larry’s influence has helped me embrace, acknowledge and appreciate whatever is going on in my life. I feel myself growing in confidence and stature as I rediscover the imaginative, reactive magnificent ME. I’m seeing life from a whole new perspective, loving this idea of playing BIG, right now it feels like an overarching radiance, beginning to notice far reaching ripple effects as I dance through life, creating a splash and inviting people to join in.

Emily P. United Kingdom

Larry has a gift for telling it like it is, has a real, down to earth approach to motivating people to jump not just ahead in their lives, but onto a whole new higher plane than ever thought possible.

Katherine A. Maryland

In a world where so many people are stuck in a metaphysical morass, Larry has a uniquely tender ability to reach out from the heart and touch your soul.

Richard C. Massachusetts

Working with Larry was very helpful and gave me a lot of strength. And I feel things for me are moving forward, I have a long way to go, but I’m confident in my path.

Timor P. Israel

Larry positively impacts my life in ways I am regularly surprised at, and am incredibly grateful for. He seems to have devoted his life to the enlightenment, freedom and liberation of ALL of us. A human being with such HUGE love and great intention is undeniable. He is simultaneously humble yet powerful. Wise yet playful and lighthearted. A great teacher, yet just one of us, learning as he goes. He inspires me to do and be all those things, too. A person doesn’t have to have it ALL figured out to lead another up to their next level, they just need to have gone a little before them. We are all here to uplift and inspire each other, and Larry gets that. I would recommend him as a guide to anyone. If you feel drawn to him, GO with that.

Liz M. California

Woo Hoo! connecting with you has already sent me in such a good direction! Thank you Larry.

Dianne C. Massachusetts

Larry is so spontaneous and has a wonderful gift of bringing joy, laughter, seriousness and his expertise in psychology that makes the time fun, uplifting and enlightening.

Phyllis S. Virginia
