Check out this quote from one of the folks who picked up a certain course of mine recently…
I have been working through Mind Intensive. Slowly. Savoringly. Squirmingly.
An actual LOL!
It cracked me up because when we do something that changes us, that’s exactly what we usually wind up doing.
Depending on what we want to do, the size of the change could be major. We want to move slowly. We don’t want to upend our lives while we try and figure things out.
So we are cautious. We make sure we’re not in over our head…at least until we’re sure we can swim the waters of our new reality.
Then when we’re more comfortable, with the change and with ourselves, we usually allow the luxury of going fast.
Depending on how strong our desire for change is, how much pain we’re in or how good the other side of that change is, we can usually savor it as we go along.
Yes, change is uncomfortable. But if we’re already uncomfortable enough to do something different, it can feel really good.
And not only that, we get to savor the pride, confidence and competence we feel at being brave enough to change. That sense of boldness is among the most delicious feelings we can achieve.
Heck yes, we are totally allowed to savor it.
Yeah, that other one.
When we change, it doesn’t usually happen easily.
Remember that uncomfortable part from before?
Yeah, we hit that wall…no matter how proud we are of our effort.
The new reality makes us squirm. Giving up a thing or a habit that we understood.
Or doing something that makes us feel awkward and stupid.
Or worse, looking back and realizing how stuck in the mud we were, sometimes for years, or even a lifetime.
“What was I thinking?”
That’s what we ask ourselves when we move.
And we squirm with the discomfort of what we permitted.
That’s exactly the way it’s supposed to be.
If you are committed to getting better, doing better, having new and better stuff in your life, that’s just how it goes.
You’ll go slow.
And you’ll savor it.
And you’ll squirm.
And you’ll become the changes you want to make.
And then soon enough you’ll look for some more…and start all over again!
What was the last big change you made?
Did you do it slowly? Did you savor it? Did it make you squirm?
