As Diane and I were heading out of Dodge (also known as driving to New York to visit relatives) I thought it would be smart to make sure all her tires were inflated.

(And by the way, this is kinda sorta gonna be about marketing, but even if you aren’t a marketer, you can plug this into any part of your life you’d like.)

Now in the almost 14 years we’ve been living in Bristol, Connecticut, I’ve always gone to the same gas station to inflate my tires. Not only is it free, they even have a built in tire gauge on the air hose. You can make sure you’re getting the right amount of PSI, and not have to worry about whether your gauge is in that little pocket on your door.

It shouldn’t come as a surprise that it’s also the gas station I most frequently fill up at. You bring me in with free air, not to mention convenience and a couple of cents less than most of the other stations, and I’m yours.

So when I drove in a few weeks ago and the air compressor had a hand-written “Out of Order” sign on it, it was no big deal. I still gassed up there, but drove to another station that I noticed had an air compressor…also free.

Good thing too. The front passenger tire was pretty low.

About three weeks went by and the “Out of Order” sign was still there. Actually it was replaced by a different hand written sign.

This time I went to the other station and filled up the tires.

Then I filled up the tank.

That kinda sorta turned into my station of choice.

Not every time.

But it achieved what the professionals call Market Penetration.

It got a piece of the action.

What it did was inject an emotional connection.

I began to associate this station with convenience, safety and – for lack of a better term – giving a gosh darn about its facilities.

No, I didn’t say gosh darn.

Bring it back around, Baby!

Whether you’re marketing, seeking out a lover, looking to run with a different crowd, lose weight…anything….

What you put out to the world, and the people in it, determines the EMOTIONAL CONNECTION they have with you.

And that in turn determines who you attract, what you attract, who you run with.

Looking to suck up every morsel from every sale?

You’re a greedy *^#$!…whether it’s true or not.

(And if you’re charging for something the rest of the world takes for granted, it’s probably true.)

Looking to give and give and give, and not worry about receiving?

You’re a patsy. People will take from you. And it won’t be the people you want to hang with.

It’ll be the people who take without giving as a way of life.

Looking to give to others, with enough self-respect and confidence to expect a fair exchange in return?

You’re in the ZONE!

Now you’re safe.  You’re also competent, attractive and open for business.

Give it away…within reason.

When someone doesn’t keep their word with us, we become conditioned to stop believing them.  It’s only natural. Same thing works within ourselves. So what say you start making little promises to yourself that you actually keep…and then build from there?

People will do more for someone else than they will for themselves.  So…act as if that someone you’re doing for is your best self you haven’t met yet…and DO for them!!!

If you haven’t stayed up all night at least five times working on your dream, it’s not important enough to you for it to come true.

Everyone is someone’s child.

When you stop giving a $%#! about what others think of you, weak people will run away.  And you will become very attractive to strong, rich, powerful, sexy, happy people.

Confidence is usually quiet.  But it sure does know how to party. (I turned that into one of my signature quotes.)

You can have doubt, and fear and suspicion.  You can be shy about taking a risk.  You can question the motives of those who market to you, offer their help and expect an exchange of energy.  You can do anything you want.

When you’re done with the skepticism, go someplace quiet and ask yourself if that hesitation, that lack of trust and commitment is a big part of what’s held you back from the happiness and success you crave.  (What a powerful word….CRAVE!)

You understand that lifting people up – genuinely – especially on the Internet makes you irresistible, right?

You won’t get anything you “need.” The energy of lack creates more of the same.

Now DESIRE….that’s another story.

No, not really. In the first place, I rarely swear.

In the second place, it’s only a small part of the way to get more good stuff in your life.

But it is a part of it.

It’s what holds people back from taking risks.

It’s what holds people back from facing their fears and smashing through them.

Because for many of us, our biggest fear is the disapproval of other people.

It’s why the Number One fear out there is public speaking…

We don’t want to be laughed at.

I get it. I don’t enjoy being laughed at either.

Then again, I really don’t worry about it.

I am secure in my own skin…and in my own sense of worthiness.

It’s what allows me to take risks.

It’s what allows me to get in people’s faces and say what they need to hear.

It’s what lets me give them the tough but unconditional love they really need.

It’s what lets me tell them to give me their money in exchange for something good that I have.

And it lets me have a hell of a good time!

Check out this video for an example. The guy holding the camera was maybe the worst waiter I ever had at a restaurant.

I had the cajones to say it about him while he was videotaping me say it.

Not bad for a guy who grew up desperately wanting to be liked…and willing to sell his soul to make it happen.

The way not to give a *#%! about what other people think of you is to feel REALLY good about yourself.

And having that high self esteem is a great start.

And having the good stuff in life – the love, the money, the hot bod and laughing face – is an expression of that self-esteem, plus some really good habits.

I boiled it down to a science.

If you want to make money in any kind of business, it’s important to have FIRST MOVE ADVANTAGE. Daegan Smith taught about that at Maximum Leverage in Baltimore.

It’s also possible to be have enough skill and integrity to stay in for the long haul…to be the last one standing.

It’s all about confidence and integrity.

Loved Thanksgiving with my family, enjoyed watching the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade that morning.

But there was something I would have rather done.

Excuse the camera shakiness…had my nephew take his first try at videography.

Actually, it’s more like what I don’t do that gets people upset with me.

(And make sure you read this, if you want instant strength, instant attraction, instant “shizzle.”)

Here it is… I don’t argue.

Or more accurately, I don’t try to convince people to do anything.

Sure, I’ll lay out the reasons why I think something is a good idea…

But I won’t try and persuade.

I won’t go through the motions of telling you why my stuff is good.

Or my company. Or my products.

(Which is kind of funny, because what I do has already changed many many lives for the better.)

I definitely won’t go through the motions of telling you why my stuff is better than someone else’s who does the same kinda thing.

For one thing, I love a lot of stuff that’s out there in the self-development and peak performance fields. I’ve invested in a bunch of it, and it’s helped me grow.

So who am I to tell you something is better for you than something else? We all respond to different things.

What I think is crap may be the thing that starts someone else on the journey of a lifetime.

And what you think is crap may be something that brings someone else to the Promise Land.

Sorry…went off on a tangent there.

I don’t try and tell anyone they should do anything.

If I have to pull out every psychological trick in the book to get someone to do something, it’s not right for them.

Sure, they might go my way. They might buy one of my books, or invest in a course, or coaching etc.

But it won’t come from their own spirit…their own internal clock that tells them it’s time to make change.

And truthfully…if I beg, or bully, or manipulate people into doing things, it makes me weak.

I laugh when I hear the lines from home business industry… “If I can show you a way to make an extra $500 a month without changing your daily routine, would you be willing to take a look?”

I used to use that line back in the day.

And my wife, who’s a world class trainer in the home biz industry makes fun of it as well.

Strength stands on its own.

It doesn’t need manipulation.

Sometimes it gets enthusiastic..even theatrical.

But that’s real. Not a put up job.

NOW….

Here’s why people get pissed off when I don’t try to persuade them to do stuff…

There’s a little dance we do with each other.

Someone tries to sell you something. They push all your buttons.

They hit your advertising sweet spots.

And most people aren’t very good at it.

So it’s easy to blow them off.

(Even though we all respond to marketing. We buy stuff that really isn’t good for us because we want to fit in with the crowd.)

I upset that balance.

Yeah, I want you to buy from me.

I want you to invest in my products and my services, because they will rock your world.

But I won’t play with your head to make it happen.

I’ll just live my truth.

And that’s a change from how most people do it.

And that pisses people off.

They like their world to be predictable.

I won’t play that game.

I’ll just get bigger, and stronger, and richer, and happier.

And invite you to come along with me, using the skills I developed over the past 20 years as a counselor and trainer.

But it’s up to you.

Stop trying to convince.

Live your truth.

Get bigger, stronger, faster, better, happier.

And let the right ones take the journey with you.
