He is pretty clear… He thinks it’s nonsense taught by charlatans and self deluding maniacs.
I don’t. I think the law of attraction is real.
Notice what I did there. I didn’t spell law of attraction with capital letters. It doesn’t deserve them.
For one thing, Tony is right. It’s not verifiable. It’s not scientifically validated. It’s not Ohm’s Law of Resistance, with its mathematical equations.
And it’s not a religion. If it is, it’s a pretty sloppy one. There’s no hierarchy. There’s no agreed-upon Deity.
There are a bunch of folks traveling around sharing the news, and inviting you inside the door.
Like any religion, some have pure hearts, some are after your wallet…and everything in between.
So, yeah. I will say the law of attraction doesn’t qualify as a “thing.”
So should we stop talking about it, and move onto the next big thing? After all, there’s always a next thing.
Well, I’m not ready to do that either.
Because I do agree that the attraction principles are responsible for a whole lot of good stuff.
And I know Tony thinks so too.
Look, most everything we accept as fact was first someone else’s witchcraft, voodoo, hocus-pocus fury when it first started. At one point electricity was thought to be the work of the devil.
And the Internet was a science fiction joke. Now we know it’s just a bunch of zinc oxide particles doing what we tell them to do… And doing some pretty cool stuff at the same time.
That’s a whole different hunk of cheese from thinking about something for a few seconds and expecting it to fall from the sky.
And it’s also a whole other thing from believing your thoughts, your energy, your intentions are all-knowing.
Try standing out in the middle of a hurricane, or at the bottom of the Grand Canyon and thinking your intention is the thing that shapes worlds.
And Tony is right about one other thing. It’s pretty freaking tragic when someone thinks their thoughts alone are going to keep them out of trouble.
Way back when, when law of attraction and the secret first took hold, I remember some dude on an early social networking site saying he was safe to have unprotected, indiscriminate sex because he was not thinking there would be consequences. He basically gave himself a license for debauchery.
I tried to tell him that simply by his awareness of the possible consequences, he was already attracting that which he didn’t want. Ignorance of the law is never an excuse, and pretending something doesn’t exist is the easiest way to invite it into your world.
But he wasn’t hearing any of it. I hope he’s still around to tell the tale.
But yes, what you think about, often and with focus does show up in your life, or at least the start.
Or as I’ve been saying to my students, clients and pals,…
When you put your focus on something, you are not given the thing. You are given opportunities to grow into it.
And Tony is once again dead on. That includes the setbacks, the disappointments, the test of your will, your guts and your sense of humor.
I don’t have the mathematical proof for this law of attraction. Maybe someday someone will. So let’s call it a theory of attraction.
But whatever you want to call it…dig in and do the stuff that tilts the world in your favor.
What say you on law of attraction?
Or….Law of Attraction?
Comment and share…let’s hear from you!
