Yeah, that’s a strange statement. I mean…who wants to be in school during summer vacation?
Stay with me…
I was doing a call with Diane about the home business summer school she and I are running. I love calls like these because I usually have no idea what I’m going to say until right before I say it.
She was going and blowing the way she does when she’s passionate about the thing she talks about.
About one minute before I got on the line I knew what I was going to say.
And even though summer school for home business builders has already started, I still want to share this with you…
Back in another lifetime (actually about 15 years ago) I was the principal of a high school summer school. About 300 kids who failed a course during the regular school year, plus another 15 or so taking Driver’s Ed.
You’d think they’d be bummed. Like they’d rather be anywhere else in the world. But they weren’t!
For one thing, most of them had their friends there with them. Most of the kids who don’t like school and fail their classes tend to move in packs. So if someone failed Algebra or English 1, it’s a good bet he or she has at least one good buddy taking the class right along with them.
For another thing, as much as kids say they hate school, most of them have a sense of security going to it. People may say they don’t want to be told what to do. Our education system (and its lack of runaways) and the economic system say otherwise. All these folks who hate their jobs keep going back.
But here’s the big thing: When I ran summer school the passing rate for the students was over 90 percent. And it’s not as if I was doing anything remarkable to make it happen. It’s simply that the students felt more competent. The same material was covered as in the regular school year. But it was boiled down to the important stuff. There was no way we were going to cover 180 days worth of material in five weeks. So we threw out what was nice to know and kept what they needed to know. It made it a lot easier for them to focus on the important stuff.
And for some of the students, it was a do over. A chance to reinvent themselves. Almost none of them had the same teacher. In fact, many of the teachers worked for a different school district during the regular school year.
And that’s what I talked about as far as the benefit of the summer school we just started.
The benefit of putting yourself in a different environment. You get a do over.
Because most of these people – actually all of them – have tried a home business, and aren’t getting the results they wanted. Some didn’t make enough money. Some didn’t make any. A bunch of them were losing money every month.
And they understand…there’s nothing wrong with them.
It’s just time to step back and learn a different way. New environment. Getting rid of the bells and whistles…putting the important stuff in instead.
Getting rid of the fear and anxiety that holds people back from learning (that’s my part).
You can decide to do that any time. And when you do, a set of circumstances show up that let you actually have that new environment.
Then it’s your responsibility to do the deal. Otherwise, the environment disappears.
But when you get that do over, and you run with it…your world morphs into something new and beautiful.
Whatever you’re doing this summer…make something good happen.
YOUR TURN…
Has there been a time you tried doing something, but weren’t ready?
Did a new environment help you?

Some serious Truth Bombs this week. If you’re feeling scared, weak, vulnerable…take a shot of inspiration and courage here…especially with our first one from Tannis-Lee…
An Addiction Truth Bomb from Tannis-Lee Henriksen:
“I Used To Be An Addict But Now I’m Not.”
You ever seen this guy on a TV commercial? Once an addict always an addict. Sorry, guy…your claim of being cured is wrong.
I had 30 years experience: down to 2 months to live, then 12 years of sobriety, and now three weeks of trying to get off of a one day drink…today I have 18 hours.
A lot of addicts think that once they quit they’re cured…well, they’re in a type of remission until the next hit or drink…ask me, I know.
I made a decision this morning to share my story in a several part series on Facebook. I have a couple of people, Erika Bang who shared a series on diabetes which was extremely useful and I shared her information with others who it helped. Another pal is Mark S., and he shared a series about his heart attack at a REALLY young age, informative, personal and also was shared to help others. People share their experience with failed marriages, death of loved ones, procrastination and failure to plan-up, cancer…the list goes on.
I’m going to share alcoholism in here because I have the disease and I may be able to help someone. I know there have been a couple of friends of Bill W. that have helped me so far…in THIS community.
I’m not “anonymous” myself. I figure that when I drank I didn’t care who knew it (and it wasn’t pretty) so my recovery and remission state I’m sure as hell not going to hide…IMHO If there is someone suffering and wants to reach out I will keep YOUR anonymity.
This morning I’m grateful for being in my 18.5 hours of sobriety three weeks ago I wanted to have a couple of drinks. Ive got a lot of life changes in front of me and FEAR. I made a conscious decision to take one day off and drink like I’m not an alcoholic.
That 1 day took 2 and a half weeks to stop.
I’m not attempting to glorify alcoholics by sharing it. I think that by ‘outing’ myself I’m easily going to have controversy and possibility of losing friends..The purpose is the help others. I can’t keep it if I don’t give it away.
A Habits Truth Bomb from Nicholas Papillon:
Success is hastened or delayed by one’s habits. It is not your passing inspirations or brilliant ideas so much as your everyday mental habits that control your life.
To create dynamic will power, determine to do some of the things in life that you thought you could not do. Attempt simple tasks first. As your confidence strengthens and your will becomes more dynamic, you can aim for more difficult accomplishments.
A Being In Love Truth Bomb from Andréa Raquel:
When you’re in love for love’s sake, folks won’t understand, they will try to talk sense in to you and knock you down a peg…
Get back up, shake the worldly logic off and love harder!
A Professionalism Truth Bomb from me:
I’ve got a launch of products rolling out over the next week. The producer is one of the founders of one of the top entities in the Internet Marketing space. He is very much NOT an employee. He is the textbook definition of a successful entrepreneur.
Communicating with him today about some things that need to get done. He told me he will work on it during “his second shift today.”
The person who dabbles – and almost always fails – in home business or Internet marketing gets to stuff when they get to it. No urgency, no commitment.
The person who succeeds and leads works with focus, commitment and DISCIPLINE. They love most of what they do, and they work in joy. But when they work, they don’t screw around. They set aside their other stuff…and they WORK.
An Opportunity Truth Bomb from Kellie Kuecha:
For the life of me I cannot understand people I see on here and in life every single day that will allow everything in their lives to be stripped away because they can’t make ends meet. They wallow in their story day in and day out because they get sympathy and because it’s comfortable. They will continue to keep singing the same song year after year and not do anything about it and wonder why they have no friends left to call on.
If I am not mistaken the majority of us live in AMERICA. A country where we ALL have the same opportunity, it’s called FREE ENTERPRISE. I do NOT believe that there should be anyone suffering when EVERYONE can start an MLM business for between $30-$100 and some sweat equity. This just baffles me.
MLM is not for everyone but you darn well better believe if I was broke and had exhausted all other options, I would be first in line signing up and working it OR I would be standing on a corner collecting money but the one thing I wouldn’t be doing would be sitting around complaining and in most cases, collecting from the system. That is why I don’t begrudge people who work the corners because at least they are doing SOMETHING! The MLM industry THRIVES in other countries because they are SO darn thankful for an opportunity to become FREE!!!
This craziness has to end.
This is not a commercial for MLM this is a wakeup call, because having spent 20 years in that world I have seen miracles happen when people want something bad enough! It’s the ONLY industry where you can start with little to no risk and zero experience and make millions. If I had no eyes, arms or legs I would still find a way to provide for my life and family so I didn’t have to burden anyone.
I am fired up and fed up that in the greatest land of freedom we have become so lazy, so out of integrity and so unwilling to work hard. Get off of facebook and go watch the Pursuit of Happyness. Then get yourself a business and hit the road. Enough is enough. I have been broke, bankrupt, homeless and pregnant ALL at the same time so no one can tell me that a little hard work and a desire can’t move mountains!
And finally, a Laughter Truth Bomb from Mariel Hemingway:
Laugh like you MEAN it!
