Stonethrowers, The Rush and The Ripple

Full disclosure…my wife and I are part of The Rippln launch. We dig it. In fact we love it.

Yes, it is a page we use to promote our business. If you use that link and sign up, you will be in our “Ripple.”

How much attention is Rippln getting at the moment? I don’t know when you’re reading this post. Right at the moment I’m writing it…

Rippln’s worldwide Alexa rank is 15,196. Two weeks ago it was over 10,000,000.

In other words, right now it’s the 15,196th most popular website in the world. Considering there are over 25,000,000 ranked sites, that’s a big deal.

There are 150,000 people who have registered. That’s up from NONE two weeks ago.

I’ve never been involved in a major launch before. Everything Diane and I have done has either been with an established company or our own training and development program we’ve begun ourselves. But we’ve been pretty successful.

So this is the first thing we’re in on the “ground floor” of. And I gotta tell you…it’s both an adrenaline rush and an eye opener.

THE STONETHROWERS: I Tweeted something that promoted a blog post about The Rippln launch, and some of the negativity that’s going on around it. Because let’s face it…there are people – many good ones – who simply have a hard time being anything other than critics.

One guy in particular was funny. His Tweet back to me…

“It is an illegal pyramid scheme.”

And he linked to an article that was keyword loaded and had links to a business opportunity. That’s a trick product and program “reviewers” use to get people to their site and promote whatever their agenda is.

Well, setting aside the fact that it is not illegal, I looked at the guy’s stats. He has over 2200 tweets and only 70 followers.

A professional stonethrower who hasn’t figured out how to add value to anyone or anything. So in the meantime he’ll attack.

Because as we all know, it’s easier to throw rocks at a house than to build one.

Or another cool little phrase I heard today…

THE ADRENALINE RUSH: It’s a major buzz running with something I feel good about. I love the idea of it. I love the ability to monetize your influence, and not just give it all to companies, who up to this point are having you pay them to promote their stuff. (When was the last time you paid for an article of clothing that had a sports team, musical performer or some corporate logo on it?)

I’m finding myself fearlessly contacting people I’ve known for a long time who I’ve never approached about business before. It’s not something I have to get up the nerve to do.

It’s natural. It flows. It’s…BAM!!! An adrenaline rush.

And gosh darn it, the same thing is happening with many of the people we’re introducing to it.

So that at this moment, we’re coming up on 7000 people in our “Ripple.”

.

And maybe that’s the thing I love about this…

The forces of optimism, fun and prosperity are having a Battle Royale with the forces of pessimism, fear and scarcity.

I know who my money is on!

Look, I don’t know that Rippln is going to dominate the e-commerce industry for the next five or ten years. I don’t even know it’s going to be around for five or ten days.

For that matter, I don’t know that I will either. 😉

What I DO know is that this feels right. After some due diligence and listening to my instincts, I decided to run with this full blast.

And I never represent this as right for everyone. Some people are in programs that will boot them out if they promote anything else.

I’m all about multiple streams of income. But hey…that’s my choice. This fits, and it feels good.

And that’s the thing…if you’ve got something you dig like that…keep doing it!

INFLUENCE: By The Numbers

In the day of Alexa ranks, friends, followers subscribers and (especially) how many buy from or join with you, it’s easy to tell how much influence you have.

We are working a launch of a new program. It’s a lot of fun, and quite possibly…really profitable.

You might be working it too! Word has started to get out.

Besides the money, it’s also a great opportunity to see where we are in terms of your personal influence.  That’s how much people respond to you.

That’s not about worthiness, or wisdom, or potential, or even skills.

It’s all about who’s listening to and following you.

Some people who have a lot to say aren’t bringing anyone to this particular thing. And that’s fine. They may not be trying. They may have a different agenda.

And some may think they’re trying, but their words say something different. To use the baseball analogy, there’s a hitch in their swing.

They hesitate because they aren’t sure of the message. They feel funny about bringing someone into to an industry they themselves didn’t do well in.

Or they haven’t figured out how to project a sense of authority. Of confidence in their own voice, through their writing.

Whatever the reason, some people simply haven’t matched their talk with their walk.

Sometimes it’s an obvious thing. They are b******* artists. They know they’re full of you know what and they do spew from the mouth (and the fingers) anyway.

But those people are few and far between. And they don’t last long. They get found out pretty quickly and are run out of town.

More often it’s good people who really want to succeed, and to help others do the same…and make money in the process.

Heck, it’s not the easiest thing to do. There are a lot of people doing the same thing. You gotta do a few things to get some attention.

But…getting influence can be done. And there are lots of different ways to do it.

Let me take a second and spill a few techniques that work really well…

1. Be On Your Assignment
If you try and do stuff you have absolutely no interest in, it will show up in your content, and your energy and your style. The online world won’t notice you exist. You’ll look like everyone else’s swipe copy, or worse. But if you come from a place of passion and high energy, you’ve got a great start on doing the rest of the stuff.

2. Get Good At Noticing What Goes On Around You.

There’s always something interesting, or at least something you can connect to the things you’re interested in. The trip I took with my daughter a couple of weekends ago turned into a really fun way to discuss leadership, which is a topic I dig.

3. Figure Out Who Your Audience Is.

This one took a while for me to get through my head. At first I thought it was “people interested in personal development.” Well, maybe so, but that’s kinda vague. Now if you were to say, “people who want to be leaders in home business” you’ve drilled down to a tighter audience. They’re easier to find, and reach, and connect with.

4. Learn The Techniques.

Much as those of us who are writers don’t like this, there are certain ways things you can do to make it easier for people to find you. Like it or not, people search for you on Google. And Google responds to keywords and other search engine optimization methods. You can fight them and be an “artist” who stands by him or herself. Or you can make little changes to your content with certain words, phrases, etc, and still keep the integrity of what you want to say.

5. Syndicate.

There are lots of tools you can use to leverage your stuff. I only Onlywire to put my stuff out to a large group of social networking sites. And I belong to a group of people who endorse and promote each other’s stuff. We do it because it helps each of us. But I will only promote content I actually think is worth reading or watching. If it’s not, I won’t sacrifice my reputation to promote inferior content. And I wouldn’t ask other people to do that for me.

6. Keep Learning.

There’s one guarantee: The Internet you know now will not be the same Internet in six months, or maybe even six days. Things always change. The ones who score stay ahead of the curve. They take advantage of new trends to bring more people to their content.

Influence will always show up in the numbers.

It doesn’t matter how much you do or don’t have now.

What matters is your commitment to doing the things and becoming the person who gets more.
