I love this scene. It’s one of Robin Williams’ earlier and mostly forgotten movies. For one thing, I love how two men almost get into a brawl, but manage to resolve things peacefully…with an actual apology, and forgiveness.
For another, I love the idea the movie projects of eternal opportunity and optimism. The Robin Williams character has a black eye in this scene. He is a Russian immigrant. He was mugged outside his apartment, after having worked his fingers to the bone to make a life for himself and his girlfriend after defecting from the Soviet Union.
I could go on. But take three minutes and watch some movie magic.
